INFINITO REGISTRATION FOR IRELAND
New Level of Blight control for potato crops
Bayer CropScience has obtained its Irish registration for the sale of Infinito , a mid to late season potato blight fungicide. The product has been a big success in Britain and Northern Ireland where it was approved for sale in 2006.
Potato blight remains an on-going threat for potato growers and the arrival of Infinito based on a new active ingredient, flupicolide differing from any other chemistry currently available is an important step forward in this regard.
Infinito acts on foliar, stem and tuber blight and uniquely at all stages of the blight life cycle. The product is best applied after the rapid growth phase when the canopy is stable. A maximum of 4 sprays may be applied at the recommended dose of 1.6L/Ha
There are no varietal restrictions with Infinito and it can be used on all crops – seed, processing and pre-packing. It is also compatible with insecticides, desiccants and foliar nutrients and is rainfast in one hour.
Bayer CropScience claim that Infinito’s great strength lies in its strong translaminar and preventative activity. Also with its anti-sporulant activity it blocks the source of tuber infection giving 100% spore inhibition and also offers kick-back activity.
Infinito has provided robust control of potato blight in trials conducted in Ireland in the period 2003 – 2006 and consistently outperformed existing blight products.
New BCS Fungicides now approved for Oats
Bayer CropScience has received PCS approval for the sale of Proline, Prosaro, Fandango and Helix for winter and spring oats. Previously these products were only registered for use on wheat and barley. The main target diseases in oats are mildew and crown rust and controlling these diseases enable growers to optimise yields.
New BCS Fungicides now approved for Oil Seed Rape
Bayer CropScience has also received PCS approval for use of Proline and Prosaro for disease control in oil seed rape. Previously only Folicur was registered for this crop. Prothioconazole which is the base product of both Proline and Prosaro has a broad spectrum of activity on the key fungal diseases of oil seed rape which are phoma spp., light leaf spot, sclerotinia and alternaria.
